Author's POV
Liam was in basement, taking out his frustration on his captives. Nothing ever mattered to him, specially feelings.
Then why Surumi's words were ringing his mind she has left. Why would she say that he will love someone and won't be able to have them. It was just a thing to say and it shouldn't affect him but then why.
He plucked the finger of the man and he screamed blood.
"Love doesn't matter to me. It never did!"
He gritted.
He got up from the chair after killing a man, his shirt was soaked in blood.
"Fucking hell!"
He tossed the knife irritated and walked out.
"If mom is out, make sure she is out of my way."
He ordered his man and he ran ahead Liam.
His mother is not really fond of violence and Liam is not in a mood of listening to her lecture about how he is human and not a monster.
But to his bad luck when he entered, she was there. Standing and watching him with pissed face. He understands that she must be more pissed because he broke up with Surumi and his mother was dreaming about making her daughter in law. She must be fuming.
He decided to ignore her and started walking away.
"Liam!"
Lisa stopped him. Everyone is scared of him but not Lisa.
He stopped but didn't turn to her.
"You shouldn't be here! Go inside."
Lisa gritted.
"I am your mother, Liam... Don't you dare use your tone on me..."
Lisa stood in front of Liam, her chest was rising and falling heavily with anger. Her eyes were burning, not just with rage but with fear. A fear that had been growing inside her for a long time.
“How many times have I told you,”
She said, her voice sharp and shaking at the same time.
“You are a human being, not a monster.”
He knew this was going to happen, Liam didn’t react. He stood there, tall and still, like her words had no weight on him.
“I didn’t give birth to you to see you drenched in blood every single day,”
She continued, her voice was rising.
“What the hell are you doing with your life?”
There was a brief silence before Liam answered, his tone was calm, almost cold.
“This is our profession, mom.”
He turned his face slightly, his sharp features hardened under the dim lights.
“We are criminals.”
Lisa clenched her fists.
“And there is nothing wrong in it,”
He added without hesitation.
Her breath hitched in anger.
“If there is nothing wrong,”
She snapped, stepping closer.
“Then why do you hide from me whenever you come home like this?”
Her eyes dropped to his blood stained shirt.
“Why do you avoid me? Because you know this is wrong,”
Liam slowly turned to face her fully. His eyes met hers.
“My care for you is not weakness,”
He said.
Lisa felt something inside her crack. She searched his face desperately. But she couldn’t find her son there. Not the boy she raised. Not the boy who used to cling to her.
All she saw was someone else, someone darker, someone dangerous.
“I told you something the other day,”
She said, forcing herself to stay steady.
“What have you decided?”
Liam didn’t even need time to think. He shook his head once.
“I am not getting married.”
His voice was final.
“It’s not for me. I can’t love anyone and I don’t believe in it.”
Lisa stared at him like she couldn’t process what she just heard.
“You have to,”
She said, her tone turning commanding.
“You have responsibilities.”
Liam didn’t flinch.
“I don’t need love,”
He replied.
“And I don’t need a wife to have an heir. I can have children without marriage,”
He added bluntly.
For a second, there was complete silence, Lisa let out a frustrated breath.
“You need a partner, Liam,”
She said, trying to control her anger now.
“You can’t stay alone forever.”
“I won’t be alone,”
He replied calmly.
She shook her head.
“Why do you hate this so much?”
She demanded.
“Your father married me. He is happy.”
Liam’s jaw tightened slightly.
“And I am happy for him,”
He said.
“But that was his choice.”
His voice dropped colder.
“I don’t believe in it.”
He turned around like the conversation was over.
“I am not done,”
Lisa snapped.
Her voice echoed in the room.
Liam stopped but didn’t turn immediately.
“You can never change my mind, mom,”
He said after a moment.
"There is no one who matches me.”
His tone carried arrogance, but not empty arrogance. It was backed by power.
“Wolf empire is at the top,”
He continued.
“If anyone marries me, it will be for money, power, or name.”
Lisa shook her head slowly.
“And I won’t marry someone who is below me.”
Her eyes widened in disbelief.
“Love is beyond all this,”
She said firmly.
Liam’s lips curved slightly.
“Nothing is beyond power.”
His voice was quiet, but it carried weight.
“Money matters. Power matters. Reputation matters. Family name matters.”
He stepped closer to her.
“It matters more than love.”
Lisa felt like she was talking to a stranger.
“Life is a business,”
He finished.
That sentence landed heavily. Too heavily.
“Enough,”
Louis stepped in, his voice calm but firm.
He looked at Lisa first.
“We will talk about this later.”
Then his gaze shifted to Liam.
“Meeting in one hour.”
Liam nodded once, respectful to his father but not submissive.
Lisa let out a sharp breath.
“You are getting married this year,”
She declared.
Her voice was filled with anger and desperation of trying to fix his son's life. She was hopeful that love will change him.
“I don’t care what you think.”
She turned and walked out without waiting for any response.
Louis looked at his son. There was a long pause before he spoke.
“You need to learn what to say and where,”
He said quietly.
“Why are you stressing her like this?”
Liam slipped his hands into his pockets casually.
“I can’t lie,”
He replied.
“It is what it is.”
He leaned slightly against the table, completely at ease.
“Mom is emotional,”
He added.
“You understand business.”
Then his eyes darkened slightly.
“I don’t have space for any woman in my life.”
Louis studied him carefully. There was something unsettling about how certain he sounded.
“What if someone enters your heart?”
Louis asked. There was a hint of a smirk on his face. Like he already knew the answer.
Liam looked at him and then he smiled.
Not a normal smile. Something darker. Something dangerous. A slow, wicked curve of his lips.
“I will destroy her.”
Louis didn’t interrupt.
Liam’s eyes held something almost terrifying now.
“A ruin,”
He continued quietly.
“That wil
l never let her rise again.”
There was no hesitation or doubt. It was just evil.
Liam straightened and walked past Louis without another word. His presence left behind a chilling silence.
